Commonly referred to as “windows to the soul,” the eyes are the focal point of the face and, unfortunately, the first area to show signs of aging. Over time, the skin creases and wrinkles, the lids start to sag and puffy “bags” develop underneath the eyes. If you believe your eyes don’t accurately represent your youthful spirit, or if you dislike being told that you look tired or angry, eyelid surgery is the best way to rejuvenate the area and restore a pleasant expression.

Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
You may be a suitable candidate for eyelid surgery if you have:
- Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of your upper eyelid
- Extra skin hanging from the upper eyelids over the eyelashes (possibly impairing your line of sight)
- Puffy upper and/or lower eyelids
- Bags/dark circles under the eyes
- Thin, wrinkled, “crepe paper-”like skin around the lower eyelids
Dr. Katz meets with all patients considering eyelid surgery for an informational consultation. During your appointment, he will examine your eyelids and note the amount of excess skin, puffiness, and wrinkling. He will ask you to describe your ideal surgical outcome, and use this information to draft your individualized treatment plan.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
Dr. Katz can take one of two approaches during surgery.
With blepharoplasty surgery, Dr. Katz addresses the problem areas in the upper and lower eyelids. Through the procedure, Dr. Katz will remove excess skin, reposition fat deposits and tighten the muscles around the eyes to produce a more awake, rested and youthful appearance.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Initial post-operative swelling and bruising are normal, and symptoms will subside after about a week. Any pain or discomfort can be alleviated with oral medication as prescribed by Dr. Katz.
In the first few days following eyelid surgery, it is important that you rest as much as possible, avoiding strenuous activity. You can expect to take a week or so off from work, and slowly ease back into your regular activities, including exercise. For the best outcome, follow all of Dr. Katz’s recovery guidelines and contact him with any questions.
