Correct the Position of Protruding Ears
Otoplasty, also known as “ear pinning,” is a surgical procedure designed to correct overly large or protruding ears. Octoplasty surgery is for adults and children ages five or older. This surgery corrects the appearance of the ears thereby improving the overall appearance of the face. Surgery can change unusual or undesirable shaped ears and create more natural, and well-positioned ears.
To perform this procedure, an incision is made in the natural creases behind the ear where cartilage can be folded or removed, if needed, and ears are positioned closer to the head. This procedure takes 1-2 hours and is performed under IV sedation and local anesthesia. Patients typically return to normal activities within the week.
