About the Facelift Procedure
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to minimize the common signs of aging by softening and smoothing the deep lines from the corners of the nose and mouth, correcting the jowls along the edge of the jaw line and tightening the excess sagging skin of the neck. In addition, a facelift tightens the deeper facial muscles and removes the excess fat under the chin to create a balanced, youthful result.
During the facelift procedure, Dr. Katz will make an incision that begins at the hairline above the ear and follows the natural curves of the ear ends at the hair behind the ear. A small incision is also made beneath the chin, in the neck. Through these incisions, Dr. Katz will tighten the underlying facial muscles and slightly stretch the skin to create a natural, rested, more youthful appearance for his patient.
Dr. Katz performs the facelift procedure on an outpatient basis with IV sedation and local anesthesia. Surgery generally takes 3.5 hours.
After the Procedure
Following facelift surgery with Dr. Katz, patients will require some time to recover (though discomfort and bruising are generally minimal). Dr. Katz will change bandages the day following the procedure and check to see if the recovery process is going as planned. Sutures will be removed within a week of the procedure. In most cases, the patient will be able to return to work within a week or two. Patients may begin applying makeup again within a week. Dr. Katz will have a follow-up with each patient in the weeks following the facelift surgery to ensure that the recovery process is going well.
