Eyelid Surgery in Dallas
Most people agree that the eyes are the focal point of the face, yet for many of us, they are also the true age indicators. Over time, it is common for the skin around the eyes to become less elastic, resulting in excess fatty deposits, puffiness and wrinkles. Unfortunately, this condition is one of the earliest signs of aging. Puffy, baggy eyelids tend to give the face a perpetually tired or angry expression.
Dr. Katz provides a surgical solution to reduce the signs of aging around the eyes and create a rejuvenated facial appearance. At his modern plastic surgery office in Dallas, eyelid surgery is offered to minimize these common signs of aging.
About the Blepharoplasty Procedure
Blepharoplasty, sometimes referred to as an eye lift, is a procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the eyelids, eliminates “bags” under the eyes, diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and creates a more youthful, refreshed appearance. The procedure may also improve vision, as it addresses wrinkles and bulges of the eyelids that can obstruct vision.
There are two different approaches that Dr. Katz may take for this surgery. With the transcutaneous approach, respected Dallas blepharoplasty surgeon Dr. Katz will make an inconspicuous fine-line incision in the eyelid fold of the upper and lower eyelids. With the transconjunctival approach, Dr. Katz will place incisions on the inner lining of the lower eyelids. In both approaches, excess skin is removed, fat deposits are repositioned and the muscles around the eye are tightened to create the desired look.
Dr. Katz places each incision carefully and thoughtfully so as to reduce the appearance of any scarring once the eyelids heal. The incisions are closed with miniscule sutures.
After the Procedure
Dr. Katz performs blepharoplasty on an outpatient basis with IV sedation and local anesthesia. He usually completes the procedure within one to two hours. Eyelid surgery patients do not require bandages following surgery, however an antibiotic ointment is recommended for the first few days of the recovery process. Sutures will be removed a few days after surgery. Patients should expect swelling and bruising around the eyes in the days following the procedure, but these should subside within a week. Once swelling has subsided, makeup can once again be applied to the eyelids.
