Achieve a Younger, More Rested Appearance
(Blepharoplasty)
Most people will agree that the eyes are the focal point of the face, yet for many of us they are the true age indicators. Over time, it is common for the skin around the eyes to become less elastic, resulting in excess fatty deposits, puffiness, and wrinkles. Unfortunately, this condition is one of the earliest signs of aging. Puffy, baggy eyelids tend to give the face a perpetually tired expression which can affect a person’s overall demeanor and self-esteem. At times synthetic materials such as Restylane or Juvederm and also fat can be injected into the hollow areas of the eyelids to achieve a more rested appearance.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid rejuvenation surgery or an eyelid lift) is a procedure that removes excess fat and excess skin from the eyelids. Wrinkles and bulges of the eyelids may be due either to heredity factors or the aging process. Redundant upper eyelid skin may obstruct vision at times. Upper and lower eyelid correction can be performed during the same procedure. The surgery can also be performed in conjunction with other procedures.
Blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis using IV sedation and local anesthesia. The surgeon makes an inconspicuous fine-line incision in the eyelid fold of the upper and lower eyelids (transcutaneous approach) or on the inner lining of the lower eyelids (transconjunctival approach). These incisions are rarely noticeable after the eyelids heal. The sutures will be removed a few days after surgery.
