About the Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction is a surgical technique used to slim and reshape specific areas of the body. Liposuction is best thought of as a method of “body contouring” or “body sculpting.” It is not a substitute for weight loss in cases of generalized obesity. During the procedure, Dr. Katz will make an incision and insert a cannula into the body to suction fat into a container using a vacuum pump. As part of this process, a large amount of diluted local anesthetic with epinephrine is injected into the treatment area in order to constrict the blood vessels and minimize bleeding. After this step, Dr. Katz utilizes advanced laser technology to liquefy the fat and have it removed. 

Liposuction typically takes between one to three hours and is performed on an outpatient basis with IV Sedation.

After the Procedure

Once the incisions have been closed, the liposuction patient is fitted with a compression garment to wear over the treated area. The compression garment will help control swelling following liposuction and compress the skin to the patient’s new body contours. Dr. Katz’s Dallas liposuction patients typically return to work during the first week after surgery and resume all normal activities, including exercise, in two weeks.

The recovery period may be longer for patients who have larger quantities of fat removed. Throughout the recovery process, Dr. Katz will follow up with the patient to ensure that recovery is going as planned and provide guidance as needed. Some patients may require minor touch-ups to maintain their ideal results.
