In many cultures, a full breast size has become the standard of beauty for women. Many women with naturally small breasts or those who have lost volume in their breasts due to pregnancy or weight loss desire to achieve a fuller bust in order to gain more confidence in their appearance. Since breast shape and size cannot be altered by exercise or other natural methods, many women choose to enhance the size and shape of their breasts with breast augmentation surgery. This procedure is also helpful for correcting asymmetry of the breasts.
Dr. Warren J. Katz offers breast augmentation surgery at his modern Dallas cosmetic surgery office. Using the most advanced techniques and breast implant technology, Dr. Katz is able to help breast augmentation patients achieve fuller breasts and an improved self-esteem.
About the Breast Augmentation Procedure
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure involving the insertion of implants to enlarge and shape the breasts. Depending upon the needs and desires of the patient, either saline or silicone breast implants will be used.
To perform the procedure, standard incisions are placed around the areola (periareolar), in the crease beneath the breasts (inframammary) or through the armpit (axillary). Once the incisions are made, Dr. Katz will place the silicone or saline implant beneath the breast tissues. Dr. Katz will place the implant beneath the breast tissues, either above or below the muscle covering the chest wall, based on the desired look of the patient. The placement of the implant generally depends on the individual’s body type.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Katz will work with the patient to determine the size, shape and look that will fulfill their desires and achieve the best aesthetic result. Using this information, Dr. Katz will proceed by selecting the implant with the best size, shape and consistency to achieve the desired result.
After the Procedure
Breast augmentation surgery is performed on an outpatient basis using IV Sedation. At Dr. Katz’s state-of-the-art Dallas breast augmentation facility, the procedure is completed within 1.5 to 2 hours. After the surgery, the patient will be sent home for recovery. Patients may experience some discomfort as the breast tissues recover, but minimal pain medication is required. Most of Dr. Katz’s breast implants patients are able to return to work and resume most regular activities within four days of the procedure. However, strenuous activities involving the upper body should be avoided for a few weeks after the procedure.
Dr. Katz will follow up with each patient in the weeks after the procedure to ensure that the recovery process is going well and to ensure that there are no complications.
